What does SSD mean?
When we plan to buy a computer we can't decide whether to buy SSD storage type computer or HDD storage type computer. Since we are talking about SSD here, let us know what is SSD? What SSD works on the computer.
What is SSD? Functions and benefits of SSD:
The full form of SSD is solid state drive. SSD is a new generation storage device used in computers. An SSD stores data on a computer in much the same way as a hard disk drive.
Hard disk drives were used in computers a few years ago and are still used today. As a result of using this old technology, the computer works at a very slow speed.
But even then SSD technology was introduced, but it was expensive. Now the price of SSD is much cheaper than before. So most computers are now using new technology flash based storage SSDs instead of old technology hard disk drives. The use of this technology has greatly increased the speed of computers.
For decades data was stored primarily on mechanical hard drives. Inside these hard disk drives (HDD) is a moving disk called Platter, where the data is stored. The speed of this Platter will be as much as the speed of read and right. This is exactly what is written on the HDD 5201 RPM (Round per minuit), 7200 RPM, etc. Different hard disk drives vary in speed.
SSDs, on the other hand, work completely differently. SSDs have a simple memory chip called nano flash memory. Where there is no moving part like HDD.
SSD technology was introduced in the 1950's and was used in high-end supercomputers in the 1970's and 1980's. SSDs were also used where high performance technology was used.
However, this technology was extremely expensive. Storage was much lower than the price. SSDs were occasionally used in military and aerospace fields, but were not used on any common device until the 1990s.
Hardware innovations in the early 90's led to lower SSD prices. However, at that time there were some problems with the life and size of the SSD. But since the year 2000, SSDs have become more advanced and the acceptance of people has gradually increased.
An SSD is better than a hard disk drive (HDD):
Since SSDs are now cheaper than ever before, SSDs are being used in general and office-court business and computers. For those who work with a large amount of data and programming, the use of SSDs makes the computer work much faster and the speed of file transfer is even higher. The advantage of using SSD is that it has a much longer lifespan than a hard disk. Also SSD is much smaller in size. The use of SSDs in gaming computers makes computers work faster and loads large gaming files faster. SSD can run on very low power. So computers or laptops that have SSDs need very little power, which increases the battery life of the laptop and provides better battery backup.
The use of SSD increases the read and write speed of the computer. Using SSDs takes less time to boot the computer, and applications open very quickly.
What are the types of SSDs and what are they?
When we go to a store to buy SSD we have to face some names like SATA SSD, mSATA SSD, M.2 SSD. What do these mean? That's why you need to know a little before buying an SSD.
1 SATA SSD
SATA SSDs look a lot like laptop hard disks. This type of SSD is connected to the computer in a SATA connector. These types of SSDs are usually inferior, so the cost of such SSDs is relatively low. That is why these types of SSDs are more available in the market.
2 mSATA SSD
These types of SSDs are much smaller in size than SATA SSDs. That is why it is also called micro-ssd. This type of SSD is not usually installed on all computers. So to use this type of SSD the computer must have m SATA port.
3 M.2 SSD
m.2 SSDs are an updated version of the mSATA SSD. Such SSDs work much faster. m.2 SSDs work much faster than ordinary SSDs so it costs a lot more.
4 SSHD
This type of storage device cannot be called SSD at all. Because, such devices are made with SSD and HDD technology. This type of storage device is called (Solid state hybrid drive) SSHD. Since SSD and HDD are a combination of these two technologies, it offers faster operation like SSD and more capacity storage like HDD.
Who will use SSD and who will use hard disk drive (HDD). Users whose storage is the most important issue and do not require more read and write and fast data transfer also do not need to use more storage HDD of less storage in low budget.
If you have a laptop or if you are thinking of buying a computer, you can use a combination of SSD and HDD. That means there will be HDD for more storage and fast application open, install Windows, SSD for all fast work.
In addition, users who play high-graphics games, who edit large videos, work on graphics, and who work with large amounts of data and programming can use SSDs.
